Well that was an interesting two days! The block and crank were supposed to go yesterday, dad was going to take them while I was at tafe. He didn't, he wasn't sure if I wanted to leave all the bolts and studs in where they were (I left them in so I knew where they went) but I said it's fin...

Certainly has been a bloody long trip since I was looking at an un-opened carb rebuild kit and worrying about that, if only I knew what I'd be doing weeks later  Certainly will keep at it, still thinking about what it will sound and drive like when it's done :) The block/crank etc is going...

Cam grind is tempting, I'll talk to dad and see if he can lend me some cash  As for crank linish, what is that exactly? do I really need it if the bearings and journals are in good nick? Or is it just the same as honing the bores for new rings and a necessary cost. Bennie I was going to do...

We haven't found the noise yet have we? Nope, another sticking point. I can't put it back together without finding the noise first. But I don't want to disassemble that cylinder head with the rest of the engine laying around in bits, there's just not enough room and things will get damaged/dirty :?...

Just went and measured all the bores properly. Took a piston ring off of a piston, oiled it up and put it in a bore, pushed it flat with a piston, then used that to get the bore gauge flat and level. Then squared off the stem of the gauge with the face of the block. All bores are 92mm +/- .02mm. At ...

. I feel physically sick after seeing that! Me too, it's the first time I've come away from the TV actually feeling sick in my stomach :( From hearing the news tonight, there's a ban on sending Aus cattle to 11 of the abotoirs in the footage, with talk of completely banning all trade of live cattle...

Well said guys. I have worked with cattle and it is easy to see those poor beasts were very distressed. The thing that really winds me up is this cruelty is done in the name of religous belief, how can those people think that their god would want them to treat one of his greations so discompasionat...

Hey thanks Ron, I'll keep that in mind. I might end up sending you a PM soon  I don't think these bores/pistons will be much oversize anyway, I did a quick (I mean quick) check last night with my new micrometer and extending bore gauges and it was something like 93.62mm, sound about right?...

Did anyone watch 4 corners tonight?
I didn't watch all of it, just the last 15 minutes. All I can say is, I'm embarrassed to be associated with Australia at the moment. It was absolutely disgusting and just pure animal torture

I had trouble getting that front panel off my wagon, took me ages to find but there are some hidden screws somewhere. If only I could remember off the top of my head! Pretty sure there are two underneath at the bottom of the panel, maybe a couple behind the control knobs themselves? Wish I could rem...

If a piston hits a valve, the valve will be bent, end of story. A vacuum test on the valves WILL reveal ANY bend, however slight, since the valves and seats would be been concentric to start with. A quick check of the valve stems with a straight edge is worthy, as is filling the ports with kerosene...
