Thanks guys.
I've found a 90 sports wagon with 170k on the clock for $500.
I'm trying to work out what else I can use other than the box swap and 14" wheels

L Series into a Brumby?

What can I put in a Brumby from a L Series?
I've read heaps about the box (tail shaft and pedal box included), but what else can be used? Without too much cutting and welding

FYI I'm not interested in putting the engine in

Put the Brumby up on the hoist today to suss out if there's room for a water tank and/or a hidden safe box and noticed a rip in my inner CV boot. So changed that today. Cheaper than I thought too. $13.

FYI I've added a water tank and hidden tray storage box to my to do list lol

Cheap piston and rings. Henley's or something. My father in law who is a mechanic said they're good quality. So if they're cheap enough and it's not to big of a bore I'll get them.

It's not the fact I want 50, it's more the fact I can get cheap cylinders and rings that size.

how far can i bore?

I can get my hands on new cylinders and rings that are 50 thou over. I know 40 is common. I'm concerned that 50 might be to big and jeopardize the integrity of the block as I will be taking it off road and doing a lot of highway driving. Does anyone know if my concerns are valid? Preferably from exp...

No I haven't Andrew.
I"ve only ever 4wd'd down around Newcastle and that was a passenger.
My lil Brumby isn't set up for proper 4wd'ing yet, still standard height with road tyres :(

Put a Maglite car kit in the Brumby, mounted in front of the drivers seat bolts on the floor, second mount on the floor parallel to the door sill trim.

Julian, are you doing this yourself or getting someone else to do it? Mates rates?
I know someone who does exactly this, so I may be able to get them cheaper, but don't want to step on your toes if you are doing them yourself lol

Yeah sounds good but I wouldn't be keen on cutting in a Targa. You can get some pretty good suction cap spot lights now with the hand that hangs down. They work well. It would fit between the targa tops too.

Hey guys, was gonna put up a similar thread but found this one.

I'm in NSW and go out a fair bit.

The brumby will be set up as a spotlight rig hopefully, if the money is there lol.

Anyone else use their subbies for this fun sport?

Cheers, I found them but are in WA. I also found some Sydney that I'm interested in but are the L series off set. I'm weighing up the cost benefit of driving down and modifying the guards to buying brand new ones for around $60 each. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/glenfield/wheels-tyres-rims/14-inch...
