So, an EA82T will run with wrong cam timing?

Is there anything else I can use to check the cam alignment without the cam belt covers? Maybe something on the head or by another method?

How do you know that the timing is spot on if you dont have any cam covers on?

I should have said "ignition timing is spot on".....

If I was 180 deg out, then would both the cam wheel alignment holes would be pointing up when the flywheel was on the alignment marks?

At the moment I have one up and one down, as per the FSM

EA82T cam and ignition timing expert required

This is a bit long, so please put on your comfy slippers. 1. RX was going OK but used to mis-fire occasionally and didn't have a lot of power, so I thought I'd put an as-new distributor cap and rotor from an old EA82T 2. Installed parts, started and car ran - although a bit rough. 3. Drove out drive...

Mobil 1 (EA82T) - Though at the moment I have Coles $12 special. Used that when I put my $200 EA82T - thought it would be a dud. Turns out to be a ripper. Mobil 1 going in this weekend. BTW - The first time I used Mobile 1 in my old engine the idle speed went up significantly (not a scientific test ...

Dead give-away for blown head gasket is bubbles in the radiator or water mixed with your oil - turning it sludge

I always used a mechanical (VDO - all brass) temp gauge on my Escort Twincam - the reason is that a mechanical gauge will react much faster to (possibly disastrous) changes than a (standard) electrical gauge.

It's more of an old school thing.....

Lo range? Hmmm - is it supposed to light up something?

RX turbo 4WD selector microswitch

There is a microswitch next to my RX turbo 4WD selector. I can toggle it with my finger but it doesn't seem to do anything.

I thought it would make those lame "4WD" dash lights come on.

Anyone know what it's for?

Underbody clearance is not an issue as I don't take the RX off road (the odd forest road or snow trip is it's limit)

Looks like underneath is a viable option then....

Thanks

Where do you mount the cat?

Under the car or in the original position?
