Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension

Just my opinion but I think a Haltech upgrade/swap is going to be easier than re-purposing the factory ECU and wiring :o The Elite 750 has only a single connector 34(?) pins and I won't even be using every pin. A couple dozen wires only into the engine bay and adding a fuse or two for the ECU power ...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension

Thanks Bennie  It's going to be good can't wait to get started. There's one simple fact that decided a few things about which engine, ECU to use etc and that is; I already had this engine sitting around the side of the house for about 4 years now  (this is why not the EJ25) But with littl...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension

Sam try running the front half of the shaft only, drop the rear section. That’s one of the beauties of the L series two piece shaft. ... Does this vibration come on strong/quickly straight up when you start driving or does it work itself up to the vibration at set cruise speeds? I've been driving s...

A fishing weekend on Yorke Peninsula

Got back today from a kind-of last minute getaway to Yorke Peninsula for a spot of fishing. Decided to go and booked the camping on Wednesday night not realizing it was a public holiday monday...oh great huge crowds I thought  Still really glad I went, haven't been to Yorkes in such a long tim...

Uni joints

The Monday after I got back from Barmera the car was back to vibrating like crazy above 80 km/h, exactly the same vibration the single piece tailshaft had right before I took it out  Took the rear half of this second hand shaft out of the car and checked the unis and sure enough they were both...

Re: Red Targa Brumby

Epic post there Bennie, good and bad, that door! Such a nice factory door too. Have been there, hit and run, door caved in, parked right outside home too! Was fuming about it for weeks afterwards so I feel your pain. If yours happened at school during the day then hopefully someone saw somethi...

Re: Red Targa Brumby

:o Exciting times! A turbo EJ in the stable ;) That looks and sounds very interesting. Am I reading correctly that you've got a EJ20 SOHC N/A engine to do the turbo test run, then you're going to put those heads on a EJ205 turbo block? Why not keep the EJ205 heads? or are they DOHC :?: What gen dono...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension

What a weekend! :o That was a blast. The wagon performed superb really, surprised me for sure what she can do. Only one minor issue with an exhaust gasket blowing out on the way down, just an annoying noise and nothing more. Must have racked up close to 1000k's :o That whole area is ace, never been ...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension

It is such a relief definitely, the whole car feels smoother now over many conditions other than highway. With that and the new muffler broken in, feel like I'm ticking things off one at a time in the comfort department  The donor shaft though did have a tight-loose-tight feeling in the rea...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension

What a day! Started working on it at 7:30 this morning, marking out and drilling only so not to annoy the neighbors with the grinder. Went and did the groceries shop for my trip for an hour but apart from that and 1/2 hr for lunch I've been on the car non-stop. By 5 I was putting the car back togeth...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension

Also with the swing arms out you’ll find that those three bolts to the outer swing arm on the K frame can change the camber of the wheel and possibly toe in a little bit. I have heard this before and even seen it written in a service manual scanned online...just can't understand how it's even possi...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension

Hey Bennie, yeah the grease is the main suspect I think in this issue. I'm sure I packed enough in yet every time I've had to pull the hubs off (changing brakes etc) there seemed to be a lack of grease in the bearings looking from the outside. The grease that was there had turned completely black wh...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension

First post of the new year? :mmm: For anyone interested, I put a new muffler on the wagon. Was getting tired of the volume level of the straight-through kind so I got a Lukey "super turbo" one which was slightly bigger and has a big S shaped internal piping so 3x more internal piping at least. Made ...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension

Got the wagon windows tinted today at long last. Should have done it sooner the difference is unbelievable. Before, a 20c day with full sun made me need the A/C on full blast because the car was like a greenhouse, so hot even on the mildest day. It was only 17 and partly sunny today on the drive hom...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension

Heh, all good Bennie, since I'm answering in two different forums now I'll just copy/paste for others reading. That's a good idea to narrow it down, remove both rear axles and drive it in 4WD. To achieve a similar result I had thought of removing the tailshaft (easier than removing axles) and going ...

Highway vibrations

Gee can really hear the crickets in this old forum these days  Well I'm going to keep posting anyway, in case anyone out there is having or may have the same issue I'm having. The wagon has had a vibration from the rear end above about 80-90 km/h for as long as I've had the rear axles in it. I ...

Re: Air Con Types

Good luck MOAM! Sounds to me like you might have a slightly non-factory system or one that's been modified in the past with a different compressor (I've seen a few like this) In my case I had the original Hitachi compressor but the front shaft seal was beyond saving, had to fork out for a new compre...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension

Time for a little update I think. Did the 12 month service on the old girl today, doesn't feel like it's been a year already! well almost. It's been my daily for that time, has not let me down once apart from the snapped alternator belt right back at the start and that one time I ran it out of fuel ...

Re: Is this forum still active?

Could it be also due to the cars that were the main discussion fodder for this particular forum are all getting pretty old now? There are still plenty of Brumbies around for sure. Wagons, sedans and coupes though not so much. Think I've seen one other wagon like mine on the road in 10 years, i...

Have to laugh...

I solved a problem today, a strange noise from the rear LH side which I thought was the wheel bearing. The noise has been off and on for as long as I've been driving the car. Usually comes on when in a right-hand turn or bend which I thought was side-loading the wheel bearing and causing it to make ...
