I think heat from the exhaust plays a part in CV life, maybe because it makes the grease too thin or something like that. I do not recommend recons even if they are genuine Subaru, I have tried some and they didn't last more than a few months. And they aren't cheap either. What I would recommend is ...

Aw :( Sad to see you're selling it! Replacing it with anything else Subie? ;) I needed something bigger so now I drive a HJ47 troopcarrier. But the Subaru was a lot of fun and maybe I will get another one day. Sorry to say but I'm tempted on those tyres. I'd like to know if they would clear stuff o...

1984 Subaru Leone MY wagon

I would have liked to fix it up a bit before selling but it has a steering issue that no one has been able to diagnose. Before I sell the good bits off separately, I will offer the whole thing for a cheaper price. Parts include: BYB 2" lift kit with ********* steering extension. Good condition, no d...

I remember removing struts by just removing the castor rods and pushing the drive shaft some of the way out. (if you have a sway bar that needs to come off too). If you brakes lines are still routed through the struts then they will need to be disconnected too.

Mig welder usually works for me. I weld a nut onto the broken bolt and get it all red hot. Even if the weld doesn't hold and the nut comes off, the bolt might come loose when it cools.

I had a tripod style one. Very cheap but the spline was loose on the gearbox stub so I didn't use it for long. The Autoforce ones from Sprint auto are good 6 ball OEM spec and should last years. Often what kills CV boots prematurely is when they are near the exhaust and exposed to heat a lot of the ...

I guess you did a whole body lift and not just a strut lift, or you would have a large amount of camber on the front. With a proper body lift, there shouldn't be any more stress on the CVs than normal. I have found reconditioned and cheap driveshafts only last a few months. I recommend Autoforce sha...

I don't really want an open diff in it and I don't want to weld that one too, I will have a go at getting it out when I have the time. I agree that welded diffs break stuff, but in a way they also prevent things getting broken. On a track that is a challenge with an open diff, a welded diff is safer...

I'll give it a go. I tried to take the retainer bolt out of my other diff to get the stub off that one but it was tight and snapped the extension I was using. I might bring home some better tools from work and give it another go.

Nice mate. Are those tyres the khumo road ventrurer kl71's (from memory) - how do you rate them? Good on beach and rock? Cheers Bennie Yes, they are KL71s. They have been great, as much traction as I could want. I like the directional tread. I have had no trouble in sand, even really soft stuff, bu...

1984 MY wagon with EA81 and electronic ignition. Just started happening today on my way home from the shops. Best to remove the trans if you don't have a crane. Don't do it over the pit because you won't be able to line it up to reinstall it. You can do it on the floor with a normal floor jack, I have always done it this way, it just makes it harder and you will need some patience. What I do is get the car...
