EA82 power steering pulley wobble
Hi guys, I happened to notice that the power steering pump pulley on my 89' L Series wagon was not running true, and infact I can grab it and wobble it a little bit. Does anyone know if the bearing is a replaceable part? Initially I thought to chase up a second hand pump but if the bearing is replac...

Sorry about that. Its an EA82 carby engine, all stock and original, as far as I can tell all the vaccum lines and emission control stuff is all there. The only thing which isnt there anymore is that aluminium piping from the exhaust which brings warm air in for cold starts. Im positive that has noth...

Steep hill starts
For a quite a while now my L series has had trouble with steep hills, but only when taking off and normally only when cold but has happened hot. What happens is I might be on a steep hill, try to take off and the engine dies quite fast, and when i put the clutch in and try to rev it, it sounds like ...

I think you might be having fun trying to track down a rebuild kit, but in my experience with other gearboxes they dont use proprietry bearings, so all you do is pull the bearing out and take it to your local bearing shop and buy the same one. The seals are probably the one thing you will be able to...

New CV joint noise L Series
A couple of weeks ago i replaced both front CV joints, springs, shocks, discs and pads. Apart from some initial brake noise which went away it was all good. Now after about 500km of driving im getting CV joint knocking noises and i would even say possibly its both sides! Im really annoyed, no idea w...

Radius rod bushes
I had grand intentions of replacing bushes in the front end of my L series while i had the whole front end apart doing the suspension so I bought a few different ones. Turns out I didnt need the control arm bushes or lower swaybar bushes i bought as they were very tight so I didnt bother. Upper sway...

I just replaced all the suspension in my '89 L series, a set of King Springs plus all new shocks. Gabriel Ultra Gas shocks in the front and KYB in the rear. It feels like a new car, very stiff and lighter to steer. The reason for the 2 types of shocks was simply i had an auto store voucher to use up...

Well I got some Castrol Multitrax oil which is recommended for Subaru 'hypoid' transmissions. There is a definite improvement! Im basically back to where I was before the oil change in terms of that crunch between 3rd > 2nd but its waaaay nicer now and sometimes doesnt crunch at all :) It certainly ...

Which gearbox oil? L Series
Did a bit of a general service last week doing oils, filters etc and changed the gearbox oil while i was at it. i put in some Castrol 85w90 and a tube of Nulon G70. (said it was OK for passenger car and light duty 4WD transmissions) Well all i can say is I want my filthy black muck that came out bac...

OK thanks El_Freddo, good starting info for sure! I think this will be a project for the new year, and will probably get a kick start when I find a suitable donor car. Probably would be looking for a liberty or Foz i reckon? See if any good rollovers come up at the auctions in the next few months, o...

OK well here she is! Got the new tyres fitted today. They actually rub on the front plastic mud guards while turning and the suspension being compressed, but on the flat it seems OK. the guards may have to come off though? what have other people experienced? Also Im going to need to get a set of fle...

Yep it would be the tailshaft loop, boy I felt sick when I started to take off for the test drive and hear this clunk clunk clunk coming from under the car! I will space it down with some washers and put it back, cant hurt I guess. Tyres are booked in for Tuesday and I have chosen to go with a 27" M...
