Hi, I have also had the same issues with my 92 L series Hitachi carby.Fuel leaking, crap economy, smells. Fuel was leaking from around the plunger port, took it to the local carby refurbisher who did what other posters are suggesting rebuilt it with a complete rebuild kit. That fixed that problem. BUT ...

Hi, saw this thread and thought maybe hijack it (instead of starting a new one). Has any L series owners used the Unifilter brand or K/N brand foam type filters ? Was looking at getting one for my stock standard 92 Carbied. Just wondering if its worth it and what gain (if any) in performance and eco...

Took it too the local muffler shop. Worse than I originally thought, both cylinders head extractors had worked loose over time with enough gap to allow the gaskets to disintegrate, causing the flanges to drop.Studs were rusted solid (well it is 16 years since the Soob left the factory) Also would expl...

Annoying ticking noise - gap in extractor
Hi all, Traced an annoying ticking noise (thought it was the lifters) to the extractor header pipe. Can feel a leak (blast of exhaust gases) from the pipe. Question is how much (ballpark) would a new extractor be to replace ? Would take it to the local muffler guy,but dont want to get ripped off. Th...

Forester v Outback v CRV or NEW
This may provoke some hearty discussion. Been looking around at a new vehicle for us (2nd hand !) and we have narrowed it down to the above.Budget will be sub 20k including trading in the L series. Forester - Pros. what can we say ? it's a natural replacement for the L series, quality engineering,loa...

Ultratune servicing ? - anyone used them ?
Hi All, Has anyone used the Ultratune shops to service their Soob's ? Any good/bad or indifferent stories ? Looking at using them for the standard 10k service (my soob really needs a good looking over especially a tune up ) just wondered if anyone had feedback. Reason is I think my local mechanic ju...

YEs the car is a UK registered Jeep. and It looks like it was shot in some local wood somewhere in the UK. The UK MOT (Ministry of Tranport) is the name given to the road worthy tests.Similiar to Australia's rego (ie blue and pink slips !). A car of that age can rust away quickly compared to a simil...

L series exhaust note - possible cat problems ?
Hello,
Its been discussed previously but I wanted to get a proper idea.
I suspect that my cat on the L series maybe have "collapsed" baffles internally due to the exhaust note.
Is there a definite way of checking before going to a muffler shop (and possibly getting fleeced ?)
Thanks all

L series Tank Capacity
Hey All, I have a question (which may have been answered before). My 92 L series Sportswagon fuel tank supposedly has a capacity of 60 litres. However I have only ever been able to squeeze a max of 35 + litres into it ? Also the fuel gauge is way too inaccurate (a while ago I took the sender unit ou...

Hey all,
I know on the old message board someone posted a piccie of the wire mod for a Hitachi carby.
I believe this opened the secondaries manually instead of the vacumn thus giving the extra boost earlier ?
Can some post the piccie ? and please correct my vagueness !
Cheers
