Just remembered had a similar noise in a Daihatsu Sirion. The inner plastic mudguard shield was missing a bolt and was bending back to touch the front wheel at freeway speeds. Was discovered by a carpenter friend. Embarrassing, but better than paying for major repairs. (Just re-read El Freddo's post...

If it starts at 70kmh, consider this. A local garage had a Gemini come in with a noise that started at 80kmh. After the mechanics test run the owner was a bit red faced when it turned out to be a loose chrome windscreen mould flapping merrily in the breeze.(at 80kmh)

Interesting that the factory manual for my KM3 84 Sherpa gives a measurement for fluid leakage from the standard gas rear shocks that allows fluid leakage to be showing on 1/3 of the housing length before replacement.( Try arguing that point with the mechanic if you have a NSW yearly inspection.) So...

KM sherpa

Just joking. Auto Pro seemed discombobulated when I asked for swaybar rubbers for the Sherpa. Sales assistant asked why I was bothering with something that old. Any polite suggestions as to where to get them?

all choked up

I have been using the Sherpa to teach a 16 year old autistic boy to drive. He was having trouble matching revs to clutch release. Though lacking mechanical knowledge he insisted that a tune up was needed. Took the air cleaner off and Hey Presto! The choke butterfly was working in conjunction with th...

electricifation of Sherpa

All good ideas, and all discussed in http://www.diyelectric vehicles/ forums. In wheel drives generally beyond most diyers, external bolton wheel hub motors not popular, generator in car is usually a trailer housing a suitable geny and hooked on for long distance trips, same principle as Holden Volt....

Sherpa posts?

Are there any other sherpa owners out there or am I alone in this vast universe? Mine is shedded, but driveable condition. Current project is my electric Sirion which has passed AS 200/3000 by the electrician and moving towards engineer certification. When that is registered then I will decide wheth...

Mystery question.

I realise that the Subaru version of the Toyota 86 is rear wheel drive and that is probably the answer to a secret question for lost passwords, but that is not the only rear wheel drive as stated. The early Sherpa's , or Rex in some markets, were rear engined rear wheel drive. The new Tata Nano is a...

Could be a broken spring, because if the spring has correct tension it should not turn.

steering pull

Your comment about pulling left until you make a r/h turn would appear to back Toonga's idea. The springs rotating could be an issue if the bottom of the coil is open ended. If it is flat like the top then it shouldn't alter ride height. If it is open ended it could ride up in the bottom saddle afte...

castor.

Insufficient castor will cause a lack of self centreing. Perhaps you have hit a large pothole or obstacle on that side. A wheel alignment will show it, but still check for worn parts as previously suggested.
