+1 for a pinhole leak spraying coolant somewhere.
This steel pipe is especially prone to rusting through

Re: Red Targa Brumby
Excellent fuel stats! Does she run slightly warmer than normal if the rad is not up to scratch? Might contribute to better mileage, I always got better fuel economy on stinking hot days in my Brumby. A trick I recently learned regarding gaskets; if it's the paper type, you can smear it with fresh gr...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
Well I got to enjoy my EJ'd wagon for 1 week. Drove it to work for 5 days, 1 day trip out for a bush walk then on the Sunday 2 mins from home during a slow speed, high steering angle turn onto a main(ish) road I heard a *bang* and the steering went all floppy  Could hear tyre rubbing guard so ...

Re: Red Targa Brumby
There's something about a Brumby on a dirt road carrying a load too Used mine for a few firewood runs back when I was driving it, always rides better with some weight in the back. Firewoods too expensive for that now though!

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
Thanks Bennie, I will need to fill up on fuel tomorrow by the looks so will be interesting to see a) how much it takes to fill that new tank? :mmm: b) how many K's till I use up that full tank? :mmm: Yeah, 10 years! 7 of those it spent under a car cover  Alas the old paint shop no longer exists...

Aaargh well moving from one problem now onto the next :( Was washing the car today, getting all the carport dust off it when I saw something that made my sweat run cold https://i.imgur.com/tPM7Z9X.jpeg Major, major paint bubble under the rear passenger door handle :( :( in my dazed confusion poked w...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
A locking AWD box would be nice along with a front LSD but I doubt I'll ever find one. Gotta stop somewhere anyway. I'll be happy with my 3.9 ratio 5 speed in EJ casings, whenever that is actually finished. I am happy with it so far ;) A modern(ish) EFI engine is a big quality of life upgrade from a...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
It's tuned! No major issues to speak of UNTIL! about halfway through when the brand new ignition coil carked it, dead short between 12v and earth for no apparent reason  And at the end, the idle speed is erratic if the idle speed valve is plugged in. It will idle happily at 800rpm bu...

Re: Driver Assistance less than functional.
Sad to hear you're having less than desirable experience with the eyesight gear. I can't help on this matter other than saying someone at my work has a Levorg with the same system, they absolutely love it. Another anecdote I heard from someone was after they'd had the windshield replaced (at a non-S...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
Have you got that TPS pinned out correctly - as in are you sure all the wires do exactly what you think they’re doing? Second TPS/brand new from memory, should be working fine. Yes, positive. I measured the pins out with an ohm meter way back before I started wiring. It's just regular old analog po...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
Progress! Got her on the road again today! Gave up waiting for the gaskets and just bought some locally, genuine subaru ones on Friday. Got the mani all bolted and plugged back together yesterdy arvo. I quickly beeped out my wiring loom end to end beforehand to check wires were all in the ...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
No drive-by-wire on this build, way too complicated on top of an already over-complicated engine swap. No need to use it either unless I wanted cruise control which this ECU can't do. Engine loom is complete  Still waiting for my long time coming manifold gaskets then I can bolt it all back to...

Yikes!! I really thought for a moment that the rocker arm was broken. But the adjuster came loose? That's a weird one. Glad no major damage was done.

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
Here's the chrome installed. The steel piece its bolted to looked like a piece of the titanic so the rust was dissolved with hydrochloric acid before a few thick coats of zinc gal then black epoxy. Better than new! https://i.imgur.com/JhLlk9r.jpeg This weekend I started making the new engine loom. N...

Heh hijack or not, I love talking about bees  In regards to "cleaning" frames, one thing you might struggle with is propolis on plastic frames. Depends on the colony, some make more propolis than others. They use it to glue everything together and block up holes and gaps they don't like. It...

Hijack/side discussion:And how many hives are we taking for that amount of honey? That’s a fair effort! I’m early in my bee keeping journey with a flow hive - I want to clean out the flow frames this winter… anyway, probably should start a new discussion about that! Do you sell your honey or are yo...

Productive weekend this one, harvested another 60-80kg of honey and today got the new return line made out of 5/16" aluminium hard line  So if my fuel pressure is still too high now we can't blame the return line, as this is the same size as the return line in the Commodore which the fuel pump...

Re: Red Targa Brumby
Nice work! Wish more people would give this job a go, rebuilding the stock carb. So many large and small running issues are solved in an afternoon of not-too-difficult bench work. The last Hitachi I rebuilt was on my ute pre-weber conversion and it ran so smooth and quiet, stopped at a red light onc...

Well I've made a liar out of myself in regard to connectors. Dunno where I was looking before but I found them today with a single google search  https://iwireusa.com/ Only downside they're in USA but I don't care. They have the entire suite of connectors plug and pin kits I need except the al...
