Re: Red Targa Brumby
Yikes!! I really thought for a moment that the rocker arm was broken. But the adjuster came loose? That's a weird one. Glad no major damage was done.

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
Here's the chrome installed. The steel piece its bolted to looked like a piece of the titanic so the rust was dissolved with hydrochloric acid before a few thick coats of zinc gal then black epoxy. Better than new! https://i.imgur.com/JhLlk9r.jpeg This weekend I started making the new engine loom. N...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
Heh hijack or not, I love talking about bees  In regards to "cleaning" frames, one thing you might struggle with is propolis on plastic frames. Depends on the colony, some make more propolis than others. They use it to glue everything together and block up holes and gaps they don't like. It...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
Hijack/side discussion:And how many hives are we taking for that amount of honey? That’s a fair effort! I’m early in my bee keeping journey with a flow hive - I want to clean out the flow frames this winter… anyway, probably should start a new discussion about that! Do you sell your honey or are yo...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
Productive weekend this one, harvested another 60-80kg of honey and today got the new return line made out of 5/16" aluminium hard line  So if my fuel pressure is still too high now we can't blame the return line, as this is the same size as the return line in the Commodore which the fuel pump...

Re: Red Targa Brumby
Nice work! Wish more people would give this job a go, rebuilding the stock carb. So many large and small running issues are solved in an afternoon of not-too-difficult bench work. The last Hitachi I rebuilt was on my ute pre-weber conversion and it ran so smooth and quiet, stopped at a red light onc...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
Well I've made a liar out of myself in regard to connectors. Dunno where I was looking before but I found them today with a single google search  https://iwireusa.com/ Only downside they're in USA but I don't care. They have the entire suite of connectors plug and pin kits I need except the al...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
Did you tell your dad he’s funny? Yes, and that I'm stubborn as a mule and I will beat this thing into submission one way or other  Other thing to ask: what voltage does the ECU use for the various sensors and can this be changed within the ECU parameters? Can't be changed, there's no need. So...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
Now might be a good time to go pull an intake manifold off a yard parts car that’s the same as yours and swap it over. Seems you have far too many issues going on with that setup which I still find baffling. Even this I don't think would help anything given recent experience, there's no guarantee a...

Here's a little clip from the tailpipe, you can (just) hear the misfire as a little fluttery sound out the back

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
Ah well, today was an interesting day, but alas she's coming home on a tow truck tomorrow  Won't be driving it for a while. The short story: - fuel return line is definitely too small, need to change it to 6mm hard line or 8mm hose - throttle position sensor is definitely bad, with no input fr...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
Dyno day got moved to Thursday now  The tuner had some excuse about moving house. So I moved my day off, re-scheduled the tow truck and have to wait one more day. This arvo after work I got 40L of 98 RON in jerry cans to put in (he wants a full tank for tuning) Plus another <10L I had in the s...

Re: Sister's Gen3 Liberty "Basil"
Nice work Bennie keeping an older Subie alive. These and the early 2000's Foresters etc are the models turning up in droves recently at wrecking yards near me. At the end of their useful life or just the cost of a few spare parts to fix was more than the car is worth :( High k's, a little rough roun...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
It's booked in for Wednesday 7th  I will hang around for the first hour or two to answer questions/fix problems. They said it could take all day so might not want to stay, but I'll be on on call to come back and fix any issues that come up. Hopefully they're OK with me filming a dyno pull on m...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
Heh, yeah I just couldn't resist  After washing it, just looked too good to walk away from for the day. That's all the same bracket, just different stages of completion ;) I was hoping the guys that did the engine build could tune it, they're the premier high performance Subaru tuners in Adelai...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
Progress today, she moves! I made the last bracket (I think) for this conversion project being the engine stay rod bracket. Just for fun(?) and being that I started later in the evening, I made this one entirely without power tools except a cordless drill, and the welder of course. I tell ya,...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
That solid state relay setup, just the relay died and not the pump? Got to be happy with that over a dead intank (expensive) fuel pump. Just the relay died. Being electronic/solid state it is a sensitive device and I forgot the diode to protect it. It was written in the installation guide, "Inducti...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
I just can’t fathom how you’re having so many issues with original sensors/parts etc. I’ve had engines and parts sitting around for long periods of time and when put into use they haven’t had an issue. What you’re experiencing goes against what I’d expect of genuine Subaru used parts in general. Ha...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
Yes, it can control the IACV with a single wire. I put on a bug-eye throttle body because it has the 3 wire IACV. Just power, ground and signal. The original TB had a 6 wire stepper motor IACV, which only the Elite 2500 and above can control (super big step up in size and $$$) I've ordered a new IAC...

Re: Silverbullets' resto: Engine, gearbox, suspension
Another 6 hours spent on it today, another day ended in frustration  This thread is turning into a blog but I need to vent I guess  Turns out the P/S lines weren't leaking, so I dunno where the puddle of oil came from that was under the car after the first start right below the P/S rack. ...
