Thanks RSR! I hope I can still ask questions on this forum occasionally... I've got a 1979 Hilux (2wd) now and when it comes to mechanical knowlege, this is the place to find it!

Yeah I hope it goes to a good home too. Sad to see it go but I need a bigger ute and we don't have enough parking space to keep 3 cars :(

My Brumby is almost up to 260 000 kms and going well on LPG for a year and a half now. Consistently gets 520kms per 62 Litres. The only hassle I have had is the mixer ring raising the height of the air cleaner so it hits the underside of the bonnet, so watch out for that one..

Brumby Oil pressure lamp stays on longer than it used to.

I have noticed over the last year or so that my oil pressure light stays on for about two seconds when I start the car in the mornings. It used to switch off straight away. Should I be worried? - (Oil is at the right level and good quality)

By the way, I bought a welder today, and I'm going to have a go at reinforcing it.

No worries at all- and good question- I wonder if this is a common problem. I think the clutch itself is getting harder to push on my car, which is resulting in the pedal box failing. Does anybody know what would cause this?

Brumby Pedal Box

I know it's a long shot but if anyone in Perth has a pre-reinforced pedal box they want to get rid of before a pay someone to weld mine up for the second time, I'll be happy to part with beer/cash for it.

1991 Liberty steering shudder

Hi Guys, I'm having a look at a 1991 Liberty Wagon tomorrow evening that has recently been reduced in price by $400 due to what the owner described on the phone as some kind of shuddering of the steering system while turning the steering wheel, even when stationary. I'm just wondering if this indica...

I think you guys have solved it.. There is no spring washer installed so I'll pick one up and put it on tomorrow. In the meantime I have done the nut up really tight and there is no movement, but the missing washer must have had a role to play in keeping it done up, particularly since the split pin ...

Great. Problem solved- I hope. What's the going rate for a shaft from the wreckers?

I think from memory there was a bit of play there actually and I assumed there would be some sort of interference fit to secure it with tension from the wheel side. I guess the cheapest way to fix it would be to get a whole shaft from the wreckers would it?

Yeah sorry I meant bearings (plural). Both have been replaced and it was very easy to pull the axle through- no resistance at all.

Thanks for the replies guys! I'll have a close look at the cone washer- I don't think there is even a spring washer on top of it as RSR mentioned....which would explain why the pin is almost above the grooves in the castle nut. I have used a huge shifter with a bar on it plus all my weight to do up ...

L series wheel play

Hi guys, I have a problem with my wife's 85 L series. The front left wheel has quite a lot of "wobble" which can be felt easily when it is jacked of the ground. I tightened the castle nut a few weeks ago which solved the problem, but now it is loose again. The castle nut has not undone as it has the...

Yeah thanks for that wrxer. I went down to the Cannington place and discussed wheels with the bloke there. He seemed pretty upfront and honest about things. And Alex-I think I will go for it with consumer affairs as you say. That price is just not right for such negligence..

The business has just left a message to say that they have found some replacement wheelnuts but aren't able to locate a wheel so mine will have to be machined/repaired on the inside where the drum dropped down onto it and gouged it. I don't want it machined....won't that weaken the structure? BTW It...
