Hi Guys, Got an oil leak that is frustrating me. There is some sort of plastic plug on the back of #4 head (gen1 EJ22) and ever since my heads were recond it has leaked but its getting worse. I havent had much luck finding info on this problem just always the cam belt end seals leaking instead. Has ...

Round pin EJ Alternator

Hi all, I have a round pin alternator from one of the EJ22s I bought (92 Liberty) I was using it in my bug but swapped to the square plug alternator that came on my new engine. I tested it last week, voltage is 14.8 under load (headlights, wipers and A/C on) I have no idea if its an original or reco...

Tony, just a thought with your codes, most of the EA models say code 35 is the purge solenoid, although 84-86 say its air flow meter. I know With EJs even if there is no charcoal canister (my bug is exempt too) it still needs the purge solenoid there and connected or a resistor to fool it into think...

The one I've got is made in France, When I was buying the new one I did look around, there was another company, might have been Fenix? that made a cheaper aftermarket one I didn't trust so went the genuine Valeo one from France. Its interesting how they have all just disappeared, about 3 different c...

It's the same small 245mm one you had. I've got several of them, the brand new one in now and 2 original spare ones. I don't actually "need" to replace it, my car has never got hot with it but I like to err on the side of caution. On 40c+ summer days with the A/C on it runs a little warmer than I'd ...

Good to see it running Tony,
Bummer about the radiator, shame you have already bought one as I'm thinking of changing mine to custom racing tigged aluminium one and I don't know if many people would be interested in my Alfa one, it is a brand new genuine Alfa one too :(

Brumby Diff lock

Hey Guys, posting this for a mate who doesn't do the whole forums thing, I did some searching on here but couldn't find much info car is a 91 Brumby and he is wondering if any sort of Diff lock exists for them? Happy to stay with stock 3.9 ratio but would go to a 4.11 if need be. Is there an afterma...

Just a follow up on this.

The hold light flashing was indeed a transmission error code.

It turns out its the solenoid for the rear diff clutch pack that drops it out on tight turns and is a really common problem.

Gotta love sleepers, especially when its unexpected. A guy here in town has an old 85 Bluebird with a turbo SR20 in it, catches alot of guard if you don't spot the intercooler. I used to have my bug as a sleeper but its now lowered with 17s, 4 wheel discs and sounds like a WRX so gives it away prett...

So for conversation reasons I suggest an EJ20 or 22 would be the go. If the 20 is more compact then I'd go that way. Gday Tony, THe EJ20 and 22 are physically identical size, its just the bore that changes. Even the baby 1.5L EJ15s are the same external size. Some food for thought for you if you do...

Google brings up a few people saying the hold light flashes to indicate an gearbox ECU error.

Its just a consistant flash, probably 2 per second, not like it's flashing a code.

Hold mode works fine but doesnt change the light flashing, didn't notice if it even had a power button.

I like the whole concept. I never received concrete info about economy prior to the conversion. A beetle owner did a conversion but didnt record his economy before he ripped the engine out for another project. Except he said "the fuel gauge doesnt seem to move faster than previously". Hi Tony Bumme...

98 Forester flashing Hold light

Hey Guys, been a while since I've posted a thread on here. Suba-Beetle is still around and serving me well but its another car this time. Yesterday my ex-mother in law who is needing a runaround car was impatient waiting for me to finish working as I usually suss out any car before she buys and boug...

What can I say, I get bored easy :D

My poor bug has had 7 different VW engines and 3 different Subaru engines in the 13 years I've owned it.

Dont laugh but I've seen EG33/EZ30 in a bug has been done but it's very tight as you can imagine.

I believe it was your thread about the SC install that I read from somewhere linked in this thread. Impressive! Have you got that other engine built up yet or still running on the old clapper? Cheers, yes that would be me and I still have them all but sitting in the shed unusued for many years now....

Forgive me if I missed it in your post ...but , was there any discussion as to how the VW 3 speed auto will handle the extra ghoa ? It will handle this no worries, especially in a light weight trike. I've seen them last for years mated to rover V8s and Commodore V6s VW gearboxes are stronger than p...
