I did the string trick as posted above too - I used wool though so it would expand in the joint.
Worked well for several years.

That site only lists bullbars and nudgebars for the outback, but I haven't sent an email or anything asking about it, I guess if they do it for forresters they'd do it for outbacks. :p They do them for Outbacks and Foresters. The first page only has info for Foresters, however if you go through the...

Sumpguard for 2001 OUtback
Looks like I'm getting a 2001 Outback and it doesn't have the under-body protection that my L used to have.
Is it a regular retrofit to add a sumpguard?

noise can still come through the stereo when its off. otherwise wheel bearings? alex Yes noise can come from the stereo even when it's off but I'm pretty sure that it wasn't the stereo. My inclination was it was coming from the front of the car somewhere, perhaps from a pump, bearing or diff. It di...

Whinning on acc you might be lookin at a front or rear diff noise...wot about down a hill in nutral as the car gets faster is the noise increasing or only as you touch the gas pedal.....:) The area is very flat so may be difficult to test on a downhill. To me it sounded like an electric pump such a...

Whining noise in 2001 Outback 2.5i
I'm searching around for a used Outback and took two for a drive on the weekend. One was a 2002 6cyl auto, which I am not interested in really as the leather seats stunk and I don't like automatics. The second was a 2.5i manual transmission. This was a great looking car, and had plenty of guts thoug...

The impreza is the smallest, the forester is a tad larger (although it is built on the impreza platform) and the liberty/outback is the largest I understand what you are saying here, I may not have described what I meant in my OP very well. Some of the Outbacks look larger than others (on the outsi...

Im too looking at buying an outback in the near future. Looking in the local papers and on carsales.com etc. A 2000 model Outback can be had for between $11000 and $15000. The 5 speed manuals have a viscous centre diff. Under normal driving the diff is open with a 50/50 split. If a wheel starts to ...

looking for a new/replacement soob
Well, my friggin fantastic 1991 L-series wagon got nicked and the insurance co. has provided me with $2950 to supplement my replacement car purchase. From checking the online car sales, I can see that I'm not going to get anything after 2000 for less that about 20K so I'm looking for a good replacem...

Air-con woes in 1991 L - maybe the engaging button
When I bought my L about 5 years ago the air con was terriffically freezing. Over the last few years the aircon seems to switch off and repressing the aircon button seems to make it kick in for a a few minutes or so, sometimes only a minute! Thankfully I have a manual gearbox and can just click it o...

EA82 in 91 L Series Overheating
I've got an EA82 in a 91 L series, overall the engine is in good nick and I lose no water or oil. A new radiator was installed about 2 years ago. Anyway, a year ago or so I bipassed the heater as it was starting to leak internally - one day I might replace it. Since then, or at least some time after...
