yep mudrat is spot on. There is a little switch which the lever hits when you select low range - lights up an organge box saying 'lo' in the car indicator display thing... I have the exact switch hanging off my old gearbox gearstick linkages. But you'd have to have the wiring + connector hidden unde...

once again, for anyone interested - an update. changed over the gearbox for an AWD one on the weekend - with different front driveshafts. And now, the clunking noise is completely GONE! Havent touched anything else! Original radius rod bushes are still in there! So i guess it was either a clunk in t...

ok more of an update - for anyone out there who might have been listening  Checked the gearbox oil level again and it was actually on full... So when i said it was low earlier - must have been a bad reading. With that in mind, i drove off to the shops and bought 2 tubes of that nulon N70 stuff....

Yeah my RX turbo does about the same (has a microtech computer though). And sometimes, like today, it doesnt really want to idle at all - sorta barely alive at 500rpm shaking the car a little - and thats with aircon off! (otherwise i'd manually set the idle speed to about 1k-1.1k rpm) How would you ...

hey, Almost forgot about this thread. I think (if i remember correctly) the part number that Xtreme RX supplied was superceeded by another (unless im confusing that with a gearbox bearing i ordered)... I cant confirm the price because the boss hasnt charged me for it yet - so far its free - but i th...

ive actually just gone and checked the oil level and its only on the very tip of the dipstick... When i first filled it up (before running) it was perfectly on full (to my amazement of ability ;)). So i'll have to throw some more oil into it and see how that goes. Might have just needed to be filled...

yeah even the repco ones arent too tough - they're good for normal conditions. But if you get a lot of weight on them they snap easily - mainly the 12,15,17 ones i think... I cant remember which, but i know i snapped the bosses ones 3 times  but the good thing about repco is instant replacement...

1st gear whining like straight cut - any ideas?
Finished putting my AWD gearbox into the RX last night. Went for a drive, and 1st gear whines like its straight cut (the same as reverse gear whine). The noise only comes on at about 2,000rpm which is similar to reverse gear aswell... Now i had the gearbox apart and was checking all of the bearings ...

as far as i know there are 3 switches. left hand side upper and lower, and one on the right hand side. Top one on the left (with a yellow nib in the sensor) is reverse - definately. Lower left sensor and the right sensor i have no idea, and would be interested to find out if anyone knows. Just becau...

quick update, The bearing number that both xtreme rx and subaru gave me were incorrect. It turns out it was the same input shaft bearing as all of the liberty gearboxes up to present. After chatting with a few people today i think the gearbox might be from either a vortex, or an imported L wagon... ...

yeah, i understand what you're saying. And i did suggest not to do that to brake lines as they'd probably collapse. When explaining it i had typical bolts in mind, rather than brake line bolts. As the standard bolts are a lot tougher and can be pretty well squashed back into shape without much of an...

hey, I thought i'd add in a little of my own input. I work at motorcare 4wd in brisbane, and we are queensland's major seller of hiclones. I've only been working there 2 years as an apprentice, but i'm a pretty cluey kid. One of the main things we have to explain to customers about hiclones is that ...

bump Can anyone confirm bearing wear? Just cause this thing 'looks' new!! And if it isnt actually worn, i would save $60, and would then know to look for the noise elsewhere. Thankyou Xtreme RX for the bearing number too! tried calling up subaru and they faxed 5 different pages of possibilities! and...

ok, checked out the drive shaft nuts today, and they are definately still tight, and the split pins are still in them and are in perfect condition - no squashing/bending/evidence of nut undoing. So the nuts are still tight... however is there any correct seating of the thrust washer? it SHOULD still...

I beleive with the $700 MRT centre you can leave the front shafts in, no drive is transmitted to the front at all. Rick Bates's car has had more done to it than just having the front shafts removed. Something would have had to be done with that centre diff. Hmm Just had a thought. After pulling apa...

hehehe, yeah well if you've managed to round off the hex, the flare-nut spanner will also become useless - because it requires that hex to grab... But all is not lost, like i said, if you get some vice grips on there, they should come loose without a problem at all. And in the past i've found that o...
