I'd say that is pretty likely but can't confirm. It would be pretty quick to take a couple of measurements though.

If you can find a rust free L series definitely grab it, 2wd or not. It's quite easy to create the mountings needed for bolting in the 4x4 stuff. I haven't done it personally but used to go 4x4ing with old 4muff Brendan and he did it to his 2wd Leone sedan. Was done with some bits of scrap metal and...

Is yours a carby motor or the fuel injected one?
If it's the carby one, you might be able to squeeze a little more fuel and air into it by swapping to a Weber carby.

Tailshaft modding isn't *that* cheap to have a quality job done. Mine was $550 a few weeks ago (shorten front section 65mm to suit full EJ gearbox into L series), replace all unis in the front section with new Holden jobbies. Also replace the entire rear section with a brand new one, also with all n...

lift kit should come with simple to follow instructions including where to start, just need the help of someone else who's done it. If you can do up bolts and use a jack, you have the necessary skills :) strut top spacers are part of a lift kit. The other parts of a lift kit are exactly as easy to i...

Wow Bennie that's far more research than I've ever done on the subject I'm sure you arrive at a winning combination.
I'm keen to see what you come up with. While I rekon I'll hopefully get a good run out of this box but possibly not based on what I expect from the dyno run.

How much mechanical sympathy are you giving these gearsets? The SF gearbox I'm about to use has 280k + on it and works fine, how bad can they be?

don't know where to find one no, never looked into it, I'd say google would be your friend. I have seen one installed on an L series before - Jay Vidler's old white Enduro wagon. It was on there since before he had the car.

Something I forgot to mention yes, naturally with different rolling diameter your speedo will be out a bit. Most people just live with this and adjust their driving accordingly, and sometimes keep a GPS onboard. The big boys with Patrols, Cruisers etc have lots of easy options (and usually more of a...

little tiny motor with the rotary though, yeah I remember having a light flywheel on my 12A was very noticeable too. I've been driving one of these H6's (wife's car) for ages now and I don't rekon it will blink twice at a heavier flywheel, specially if it's not that much heavier than a stock one any...

much of a muchness really, both cars are more than capable of the task at hand, the Outback probably a bit more comfortable. Comes down to personal preference just the same as which one to take down to do the grocery shopping. If it were me, I'd take the Forester to save the petrol money.

Best thing about being the only Suby is if you make it up a hill climb or such, you can say "haha see I can do it and it's only a Suby!".
Then if you don't make it you can say "oh well, it's only a Suby!".

You can do a lift kit with a couple of jacks and a couple of jack stands.

To be honest L series are excellent value especially for modding to turn them into an awesome car, but this is only really true if you can do the work yourself. Most L series are worth less than 1 grand now, so even investing in brand new parts usually adds up to more than the car is worth without a...
