I've got a Gen4 (2008 ) so it might be a little different, but for me good on the highway is 9.2 - 9.8, around town is 10.5 - 12.0. That's with 95ron Ethanol fuel, using the expensive stuff reduces the town figure to 9.5 - 11 or so. I should also add that's using sports mode.

As far as I know there is only 4 bolt (pre '98ish) and 8 bolt (newer). I've got a 4 bolt '93 EJ20 turbo connected to an 8 bolt '04 Forester dual range gearbox and it works fine. As far as I know, any of the EJ series engines and gearboxes will bolt up fine.

I've got the same boost problem with my car. I pulled all the solenoids/sensors off last weekend and checked them, all ok, put them back in and it was working. Now it's not. None of the vacuum hoses seem loose but I might try replacing them.

No, my understanding is you can only do this to the early Liberty awd boxes. The later model Outback boxes (like mine, a 1999 one) cannot have this done, although there is an after-market low range gear available to buy (well there was at some stage) but it was ridiculously expensive. That used to ...

but now I cannot stand the electric motor air pollution that so many people are 'immune' to... I wonder if this would be the same if we all drove electric cars? Most of the pollution in the underground railway stations is brake dust. The only pollution that electric motors make is carbon dust from ...

I think all the suspension in the MY08 outbacks is way too soft, if you go over a bump any faster than walking pace the whole thing bunny hops.

I guess it just wasn't made for the outback!

Have you got it in S# mode or Intelligent? Other than that, sounds like something is wrong. My 08 6cyl Outback only uses 11L/100km on a bad day, usually around 10.

I'm not sure actually. I think the mechanical ones work by using a spring diaphragm which I'm guessing would slightly open as the boost increases. If you goto a Jaycar Electronics store and have a look in a magazine called "Performance electronics for Cars" they have a boost controller article in th...

I'd suggest an electronic boost controller - That way the boost reaches maximum faster by leaving the wastegate completely closed. I'm not sure if the newer ECUs do this already but it made a noticeable difference on my '93 EJ20G.

My EJ20G RX turbo got about 8.5l/100km when I first did it, now it's up to 10.5 but that's with 2" lift and huge wheels. The best it ever managed was 7.2 and that was even on E10.

Do they simply come off the MY version and fit into the EJ version? Surely not! Yes, they do actually! But it you want them to stay in there you need to machine a groove in the stubs for the circlip that holds them in. Have a look at the Impreza shafts and you will see what I mean, the brumby stubs...
